Kendall, I admire your bravery on your writing journey. Being vulnerable is important in one's life and to speak about it publicly is something that others can benefit from. Since you have expressed yourself openly, you must realize that your subscribers (me) can voice opinions. When you discuss personal family matters, such as family alcoholism, you need to respect those involved. Did you discuss or share that you were writing about to them? You simply can't 'out' someone else's personal information without checking with them first. Please remember as you write that if you decide to cover deeply personal information about someone else, that is THEIR story, not yours. Love you, be well.
Hi Kelly, thanks for your comment. Although I don’t feel that I outed anyone, you did inspire me to reconsider how difficult it can be to see someone share a sensitive perspective without running it by you.
I don't know you, and I don't know Kendall, but I have been impacted by family substance abuse. I am not sure I agree with your thoughts here. Even if family hides their substance abuse, we are impacted genetically. It becomes our story. Also how we are treated by family members with substance abuse issues becomes part of our story. We have a right to share how we are impacted by others.
They're not hiding, they are choosing to share as they wish as it is sensitive, personal information. I do agree with your comments, it's just tough as it does impact an entire family. A courtesy heads up would've been nice as Kendall has very supporting parents. It's making them feel a bit awkward. As she finds her way through adulthood it can be tough but worth an exploration of what has impacted you. I applaud her again and look forward to her next issue.
Thank you, Jamie!! So grateful for your writing and generous spirit.

I think you are in your own way, sister.
Just write what you want to write. You will grow from the consistent output! You will! And you will find your audience. Give yourself time and grace.
So true - thank you for your encouragement, Lexie!!
